Andover hit Southampton University for six before clinching their place in next month’s Hampshire Hockey Trophy final with a 2-1 win over cup holders, Salisbury.
Jack Trott, Ben Anthpony, Alex Griffiths, George Almark, Dan Allen and Liam O’Sullivan all hit the target as the Lions ran amok in the quarter-finals against the Wessex students, whom they beat 6-0 in the Southampton Sports Centre sunshine. But Salisbury, who beat Aldershot & Farnham 2-1 in last season’s final, proved far tougher opposition in the semi. O’Sullivan fired Andover ahead, but Mark Antrobus, who scored in Salisbury’s 2-1 quarter-final win over US Portsmouth, put the Bemerton side level. Salisbury’s joy was short lived, however, as Ben Anthony celebrated Andover’s winner minutes later. Bournemouth, who thrashed Yateley 7-0, will face Andover in the Trophy final at Aldershot on May 7. Andover won the cup two seasons ago, beating Yateley in a dramatic penalty shoot-out final. Andover seconds will also be in cup final action that day – against Winchester II in the Hampshire Open League Trophy
