3/22/2018 0 Comments Bernie goal gives Southampton drawSouthampton ladies remain fifth in South Women's League Division 3B after a 1-1 draw with Tulse Hill & Dulwich and amid a plethora of clubs vying for a final five place finish.
It needed a late equaliser by Bernie Jones to secure a point for Southampton, whose last two matches are at relegated Worthing on Saturday and a re-arranged affair at Wimbledon. Southampton, who have Fareham among their contenders for a top five finish, began well in the freezing Sports Centre conditions, with Sue Merry, and Nat Romain both denied by the Tulse Hill goalkeeper. But 21 minutes in and Southampton were caught on the break and turned round 1-0 adrift. Led by the tenacity of Emma White and goalkeeper Linda Dunham, Southampton beat off Tulse Hill's attempts to stretch their half-time lead. Southampton's positive attitude led to an equaliser seven minutes from time, Bernie Jones picking up the piece off a Lauren Carter strike to give the city girls a share of the spoils. Fareham lost ground after a 2-1 loss to Eastbourne at the Saffrons.
