Derby win will see Southampton end third

Southampton ladies will be virtually assured third spot in South Women’s League Division 3B if they beat Fareham in Saturday’s high noon derby at the Sports Centre.
They go into the all-Hampshire showdown seven points clear of Fareham, whom they beat 1-0 at Henry Cort courtesy of Zoe Stride’s winner.
While Fareham were thrashing goalie-less Tulse Hill & Dulwich 8-1, Southampton experienced mixed fortunes, losing 5-3 at second placed Wanderers, but then bouncing back to edge out Haslemere 2-1.
Southampton took the lead through Sue Merry (left) at Wanderers (Abi Woodcock teed up the chance), but by half-time were 4-1 down.  Stride and debutant Maddie Larkin got Southampton back in it at 4-3. Wanderers’ fifth clinched it.
First half goals by Lauren Carter and Lou Hopkins gave Southampton a 2-0 lead over Haslemere, which proved enough to secure the points.
