jans ladies are top of the England Women’s League West Conference after a fourth straight win – and they’ve yet to concede a goal !
A 3-0 victory over visiting Swansea City gave Trojans a two-point lead – title favourites Stourport fluffing their lines in a goal-less draw with Gloucester City. Third placed Reading won 2-0 at Team Bath. Trojans got their noses in front nine minutes before half-time against Swansea – Emma Teague roofing a penalty corner conversion. But the Stoneham girls needed to keep their shape at the back as Swansea’s forward press was effective and goalkeeper Mel Insall kept busy. Equally, Trojans’ counter-attacks were well structured, without any addition to that 26th minute goal. Trojans were, though, cruelly denied a penalty stroke when a Rachel Rountree shot smacked into a near post Swansea defender’s shins, out of sight of the umpire. But Trojans superiority didn’t go unrewarded as they added two goals in the last quarter. Teenager Imogen Lea picked up a rebound to double Trojans advantage and in the final play Phillippa Stewart got the vital touch to a reverse stick shot from outside the circle from Jenny Peebles to make it 3-0.
