Havant share top place with Olton & West Warwicks in England Hockey’s Western Conference after a 4-1 win over Isca in Exeter – but the victory came at significant cost with Bradley Lock sustaining serious facial injuries after being hit with a stick.
Lock was taken to Exeter hospital with 63 stitches inserted after suffering a fractured cheekbone with nerve damage. Havant were a goal up through Michael Deller-Merricks at the time and were clearly shaken by the seriousness of Lock’s injury, which led to play being delayed for some time. Right on the half-time break, however, Havant doubled their lead through Jack Stubbings and ten minutes into the second half made it 3-0 from a Matt Cox penalty corner. Jon Wright converted a penalty stroke to rekindle Isca’s hopes, but a swift counter-attack and a fine finish by Miguel Rodrigues made it 4-1 to the joint table toppers.
