Teenager Alex Pendle struck a first half hat-trick only to find himself on the losing Chichester side after Fareham produced an astonishing turn around to knock the West Sussex side out of England Hockey’s Tier 1 Championships in a penalty shoot-out. Pendle, pictured, who played for England Under-16 in last year’s European Junior Championships, scored twice in the opening ten minutes and when he converted his second penalty corner at 3-0 it looked curtains for Fareham. But, lifted by a comeback launching goal by James Seager before the break, Fareham dominated the second half, clawing it back to 3-2 through amie Rawlings, who then equalised from a penalty stroke. But for some fine goalkeeping from Macjec Pacanowski and a series of near misses, Fareham might have won it in normal time, but they prevailed 4-2 in the penalty shoot-out with Rory Kemp twice making fine saves. Jamie and Scott Rawlings, Luke Cornish and Chichester old boy Martin Gough converted strokes for Fareham. In the England Hockey Western Conference, meanwhile, Havant found themselves 3-0 down inside 18 minutes at Olton & West Warwicks and were eventually beaten 4-2.
